Sylvie Marleau is a Full Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Pharmaceutical Studies at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Université de Montréal. Her research focuses on pharmacology, immunology, and drug development, with an emphasis on CD36 receptor ligands, inflammatory mechanisms, and cardiovascular disease. She leads interdisciplinary projects targeting atherosclerosis, cytokine storm modulation, and diabetes-related cardiomyopathy. Her expertise includes drug discovery and validation, with notable contributions to understanding the role of CD36 in lipid metabolism, macrophage regulation, and anti-atherosclerotic therapies. She has supervised over 20 graduate students, contributing to advancements in peptide-based drug delivery and cardiovascular protection strategies. Recent research highlights include investigating CD36 ligands' cardioprotective effects against ischemia-reperfusion injury and exploring their potential in managing SARS-CoV-2-induced cytokine storms. Her grants include funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Marleau collaborates with teams at the GRUM (Groupe de recherche universitaire sur le médicament) and has led projects spanning 2004 to 2028, emphasizing translational research from bench to clinical applications. Her work bridges basic science and clinical outcomes, addressing unmet needs in cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases.
