Ashley Moseman serves as an Assistant Professor of Integrative Immunobiology and Assistant Professor of Cell Biology at Duke University School of Medicine. She holds significant affiliations as a Faculty Network Member of the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences and a Member of the Duke Cancer Institute. Her pioneering research examines the delicate balance between neuronal function and immune protection at the olfactory neuroepithelial barrier, where sensory neurons directly interface with the external environment while protecting the central nervous system from pathogens. Dr. Moseman completed her Ph.D. at Harvard University in 2011, establishing the foundation for her interdisciplinary career at the intersection of immunology and neuroscience. Her research program focuses on understanding how immunological surveillance operates at the unique olfactory barrier, where neurons must contact the external environment to perform chemosensory functions while preventing pathogens from entering the CNS. The Moseman Lab employs cutting-edge multiphoton intravital imaging to visualize immune responses in vivo, revealing dynamic cellular interactions during viral infections and responses to pathogens like Naegleria fowleri.
