Xiao-Cheng Wu is a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He serves as the Director of the Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) and has been the LSU Principal Investigator for the NCI-SEER since 2014 and CDC-NPCR funding initiatives since 2015. With over 25 years of dedicated service to the Louisiana Tumor Registry, Dr. Wu has established himself as a leading expert in cancer registry operations and epidemiological research. Dr. Wu's research focuses on several critical areas in cancer epidemiology, including cancer disparities and etiology, cancer screening policy and evaluation of screening effectiveness, patterns and quality of cancer care, health-related quality of life for cancer patients, disparities in cancer outcomes, and social determinants of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and outcome. His work extensively examines how socioeconomic factors influence cancer outcomes, with particular attention to vulnerable populations in Louisiana and across the United States. He has pioneered research utilizing the SEER-linked Virtual Tissue Repository to support biospecimen research and has worked to enhance population-based cancer registry data through linkages with electronic medical records and other health data sources. Dr. Wu's extensive publication record demonstrates his leadership in cancer epidemiology research, with numerous studies examining racial and socioeconomic disparities in cancer outcomes, the impact of healthcare policies like Medicaid expansion on cancer treatment access, and the development of innovative methods for analyzing cancer registry data. His research consistently addresses critical issues in cancer control and prevention, with a strong emphasis on translating epidemiological findings into actionable public health interventions. As a leader in the field, he has served on the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries' Research and Data Use Steering Committee and chaired the Research Application Review Workgroup, contributing significantly to national cancer surveillance efforts. Dr. Wu has authored or co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, demonstrating his prolific contributions to the scientific literature. His work has been supported by prestigious organizations including the NCI, NIH, CDC, PCORI, and AHRQ, reflecting the significance and impact of his research. He has played pivotal roles as the Louisiana Principal Investigator for numerous multi-center research studies examining patterns of care, patient-reported outcomes, and biospecimen research. His leadership extends to local initiatives such as the Data Committee of the Taking Aim at Cancer in Louisiana project and the Louisiana Vital Records Review Panel, where he helps shape state-level cancer control strategies.
