He received his Ph.D. in the History of Science from Harvard University in 2021. His research explores the production and transformation of knowledge about organisms and life within environmental history, the history of science, medicine, and technology, and the history of capitalism. His work particularly examines how scientific knowledge is shaped by economic systems and how our relationships with nonhuman organisms evolve under capitalist frameworks. Brad's first book, "Lab Dog: What Global Science Owes American Beagles," traces the emergence of beagles as laboratory animals across various scientific fields including eugenics, radio biology, pharmacology, tobacco research, and neuroscience. His second book project, "Rotten Beauty," investigates the global history of mycology and fungal biology over the last three centuries. His scholarship demonstrates how organisms like dogs, pigs, and fungi become sites where scientific knowledge, economic systems, and human-animal relationships converge. His publications reveal consistent engagement with the material conditions of scientific practice His work spans from early 20th century laboratory practices to contemporary biotechnology He examines how organisms become standardized and commodified within scientific systems His research connects historical analysis with contemporary debates about animal welfare and scientific ethics His writing bridges academic scholarship with public discourse through publications in The Washington Post and other media He has developed expertise across multiple scientific domains including mycology, radiobiology, and pharmacology IUHPST DHST Dissertation Prize HSS Nathan Reingold Prize Harvard University's Bowdoin Prize Notes and Records Essay Award (honorable mention) FHHS John C.
