Erik Bjørnerud is an Associate Professor at the Department of Natural Sciences, Practical-Aesthetic, Social and Religious Studies (RES) at Østfold University College. He holds roles on the university's Research Ethics Board (2023–2026) and the Career Assessment Matrix working group (2023–2024). Previously, he worked at the National Committees for Research Ethics and the Centre for the Studies of Holocaust and Religious Minorities before joining OsloMet, where he completed his PhD and held research leadership roles. His research focuses on applied ethics (e.g., health technologies, AI ethics), religion in modern society, and religion in literature. He has contributed to projects like the Assisted Living Project (2016–2020), addressing assistive technologies for elderly care. Key publications include studies on ethical frameworks for health tech in pediatric palliative care (2025), tensions in Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in higher education (2025), and the intersection of religion and politics (e.g., Morgenstjernen – en relasjonell lesning om religion og politikk 2024). Bjørnerud’s work bridges ethics, technology, and societal impact, with a focus on stakeholder engagement and policy. His recent articles explore cultured meat ethics (2024), brain monitoring technology dilemmas (2024), and interdisciplinary teaching approaches to future protein production (2024).
