Muzaffer ALKAN is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at Kafkas University's Dede Korkut Faculty of Education. He has held this position since 2016, following previous academic appointments as Professor (2013-), Associate Professor (2009-2014), and Assistant Professor (2002-2009) at Kafkas University. Dr. ALKAN earned his PhD in Science Education from Karadeniz Technical University's Institute of Educational Sciences (1995-2001), following a Master's Degree in Science Education (1991-1995) and Bachelor's Degree from the Fatih Faculty of Education (1986-1991), all at Karadeniz Technical University. His research spans both Science Education and Organic Chemistry, with a particular focus on triazole derivatives and their biological activities. His work demonstrates a unique interdisciplinary approach combining chemical synthesis with educational applications. Recent publications show significant contributions to the synthesis, characterization, and biological evaluation of novel triazole-based compounds with antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. His publication profile reveals a strong focus on the development and analysis of heterocyclic compounds, particularly 1,2,4-triazole derivatives, with applications in medicinal chemistry. The research consistently examines structure-activity relationships to optimize biological properties while maintaining synthetic feasibility. Dr. ALKAN has supervised 34 graduate students across various topics in science education and chemistry. His administrative experience includes serving as Department Head since 2010, Institute Director (2010-2015), and various other leadership roles within the university. He has led or participated in 6 research projects, primarily focused on the synthesis and biological evaluation of novel heterocyclic compounds. His recent work shows a consistent pattern of interdisciplinary research bridging chemistry and education.
