Demet Balkan is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Istanbul Technical University. Her research focuses on composite materials, structural dynamics, and aerospace engineering applications. She specializes in analyzing blast loads, viscoelastic cores, and additive manufacturing techniques for structural components. Key Projects: Development of AI-aided image processing algorithms for space environments (BAP-funded, 2025–2028) Experimental investigation of blast responses in additively manufactured sandwich structures (TUBITAK-funded, 2022–2023) Her research interests include finite element analysis, structural health monitoring, and computational modeling of composite materials under extreme conditions. She has published extensively on topics like delamination prediction, bird strike analysis, and vibration behavior of composite structures. Dr. Balkan has led 7 research projects and contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed articles, with notable works on ANN algorithms for strain prediction and blast load modeling. She collaborates internationally, particularly on aerospace materials and structural resilience.
