Patrik Lindenfors is an Associate Professor affiliated with both the Institute for Future Studies and the Department of Psychology at Stockholm University . He is a core member of the Centre for Cultural Evolution , focusing on interdisciplinary research into cultural and societal change as evolutionary processes. His work bridges evolutionary biology, political science, and anthropology, emphasizing topics such as cultural evolution of democracy, biological and cultural underpinnings of religion, primate brain architecture, and sexual dimorphism in mammals. Research Interests: Cultural Evolution: Examines democratization pathways, institutional transitions, and the application of phylogenetic methods to cultural systems. Religion Evolution: Dissects components of religion through evolutionary lenses, exploring health effects of religiosity and cultural diffusion. Primate Studies: Investigates brain anatomy, social behavior, and evolutionary drivers of primate traits such as aerobic capacity and social group dynamics. Sexual Dimorphism: Analyzes evolutionary pressures influencing body size, immunity, and behavior across species. Publications highlight his contributions to understanding primate cognition, democratization processes, and the role of cultural transmission in human societies. He actively advises master’s students and collaborates with global projects like the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) initiative.
