Nicola Brimblecombe is a Researcher at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), affiliated with the Care Policy and Evaluation Centre since joining in 2012. She serves as a key contributor to the NIHR Adult Social Care Research Unit (ASCRU) and holds the distinction of NIHR SSCR Fellow. Her research program centers on unpaid care systems with specific expertise in young carers' support, housing-care interdependencies, and unmet care needs. She employs mixed-methods approaches to investigate care inequalities across socioeconomic strata, with particular focus on financial hardship vulnerabilities and youth mental health determinants. Current leadership roles encompass studies on whole-family care models, integrated carer support frameworks, and housing suitability metrics for aging populations. Publication analysis reveals consistent thematic focus on care poverty measurement, spatial health disparities, and policy implementation gaps. Her work bridges housing policy, social care infrastructure, and health economics with increasing emphasis on intersectional vulnerability assessment since 2018. Scientific recognition includes: NIHR SSCR Fellowship Grant leadership spans multiple high-impact projects including unmet need assessments for unpaid carers, young carer family support systems, national evidence reviews on carer interventions, and longitudinal studies on unpaid care's impact on employment. Prior to LSE, she conducted formative research on maternal health vulnerabilities at Maternity Alliance and geographical health inequality drivers at the University of Bristol. Her operational base within the NIHR ASCRU facilitates direct policy translation through close collaboration with UK social care commissioners and third-sector implementation partners.
