Zygmunt Rychert

Zygmunt Rychert serves as Professor of Conducting at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk within the Faculty of Conducting, Composition and Music Theory, where he teaches symphonic and operatic conducting classes. His international career spans five decades with prominent roles including founder of the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra (1974-1981) and former conductor of the Academy's Symphony Orchestra (2009-2018).

His formal education includes distinction-level graduation in conducting from the State Higher School of Music in Poznań under Professor W. Krzemieński (1971) with supplementary composition studies under Florian Dąbrowski.

Rychert's professional focus centers on conducting methodology, historical music reconstruction, and orchestration techniques. He has reconstructed seminal works including L. Różycki's Violin Concerto and I.J. Paderewski's Violin Concerto, while his performance repertoire ranges from chamber ensembles to Mahler's "Symphony of the Thousand" requiring 850 performers. His scholarly contributions intersect performance practice with musicological restoration of incomplete historical scores.

Major recognitions include:

• Gold Cross of Merit (awarded twice by the Polish Republic)
• Pomeranian Artistic Award 2014 for "creative and didactic work" resulting in acclaimed recordings of Kilar's "Angelus, Exodus, Victoria" and Panufnik's concertos
• 1st prize at Katowice Conducting Competition (1970) as youngest participant

Rychert maintains active performance collaborations across 40+ countries including historic concerts for Pope John Paul II's 1999 Poland visit featuring 3,000 musicians.
