Zygmunt J. Haas holds a dual academic role as a Distinguished Chair in Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) and as a Professor Emeritus at Cornell University's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He specializes in wireless networks, secure communications, and network protocol design.
Haas earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1988. Before academia, he worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories, researching wireless communications and optical networks. His current research focuses on distributed MIMO systems, physical-layer security, and mobile network architectures.
He leads the Wireless Network Laboratory (WNL), renowned for contributions to ad hoc and sensor networks. His work has produced over 200 publications and 20 patents, with notable recognition including the IEEE ComSoc awards for wireless and secure network contributions.
Haas has served in editorial roles for IEEE Transactions on Networking and Wireless Communications, and as Chair of the IEEE Wireless Communications Technical Committee. His research emphasizes practical applications of secure communication technologies in dynamic network environments.
