Zuzana Parusniková is a Research Professor at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, where she has been employed since 1997. Her work focuses on philosophy of science, particularly the philosophies of Karl Popper and David Hume, as well as skepticism and philosophy of medicine. She has held visiting positions at the University of Cape Town, University of the Western Cape, and University of Cambridge, demonstrating her international academic engagement.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. (CSc.) in Philosophy of Science from the Institute for Philosophy and Sociology, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1985-1988) and a Masters (PhDr) in Philosophy from Charles University Prague (1981-1985). Her doctoral thesis focused on Critical Rationalism and its Offshoots, while her master's thesis examined Hegel's Critique of Kant's Morality.
Parusniková's research interests span several interconnected areas of philosophy. She has made significant contributions to understanding Karl Popper's philosophy, particularly his theory of World 3, falsificationism, and evolutionary epistemology. Her work on David Hume explores his skepticism, particularly in relation to science and morality. She has also examined the intersection of philosophy with medicine, analyzing concepts like 'healthism' and alternative medicine from a philosophical perspective. Her scholarship demonstrates how historical philosophical ideas remain relevant to contemporary scientific and medical debates.
Her publications reveal a consistent focus on critical rationalism, skepticism, and the philosophy of science. She has examined how Popper's and Hume's ideas relate to each other, showing continuities between ancient skepticism and modern philosophy of science. Her work often addresses methodological questions in science, the nature of rationality without foundations, and the relationship between scientific progress and philosophical critique.
