Zsolt Szabo is an Associate Professor of Trombone/Euphonium at Western Carolina University (WCU), affiliated with the David Orr Belcher College of Fine and Performing Arts and the School of Music. He serves as Principal Trombone of the Brevard Philharmonic Orchestra and is a member of The Hungarian Trombone Connection and Slides in Harmony Trombone Quartet. His musical career includes principal roles with the Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra in Chicago and performances with orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and international ensembles in Mexico and Armenia.
Professionally, Szabo has delivered masterclasses globally, including at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory. His teaching experience includes roles at Western Illinois University and The University of Iowa, where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Trombone Performance and Pedagogy. He also holds degrees from Western Illinois University and the Gheorge Dima Music Academy in Romania.
As an Edwards Artist/Clinician, Szabo exclusively performs on Edwards trombones and has contributed to recordings with groups like the Hungarian Trombone Connection and Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet. His awards include the prestigious Iowa Performance Fellowship Award.
