Zoë Robaey is an Assistant Professor in Ethics of Technology within the Philosophy Group at Wageningen University & Research's Faculty of Social Sciences. She investigates moral responsibility under uncertainty in agricultural biotechnology, combining conceptual and empirical approaches to develop frameworks for responsible innovation. Her research specifically examines virtue ethics in innovation practices for biotechnology.
Robaey holds multi-disciplinary qualifications including a Biology degree (2007), Science and Technology Studies (STS, 2008), Public Policy (2011), and a PhD from Delft University of Technology (2017) titled Seeding Moral Responsibility in Ownership: How to Deal with Uncertain Risks of GMOs. Prior to joining Wageningen, she was a postdoctoral researcher at Delft University of Technology (2017-2019) and a synthetic biology researcher at Rathenau Institute (2016-2017).
Her scholarly recognition includes a VENI grant for research on innovation virtues (2019), being a top-five finalist for New Scientist's Wetenschapstalent award (2019), and selection as a Young Philosopher at Brainwash Festival (2017). She actively advises iGEM competition chapters and frequently engages in public debates about GMOs at venues like Pakhuis de Zwijger.
Robaey holds significant editorial and leadership roles: Management Team member of 4TU Centre for Ethics and Technology, Associate Editor for Science and Engineering Ethics, and Newsletter Editor for the European Society for Agricultural and Environmental Ethics.
