Zozan Cetin is a university assistant (predoc) in the Department of History at the University of Vienna, Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies. Her interdisciplinary work examines the historical intersections of gender, disability, and animal rights through a feminist theoretical lens.
Her educational background includes:
- Master's Degree in Women's Studies from Dokuz Eylul University (2015-2018), with thesis on "Woman and a Political Analysis for Woman in the Ottoman and the Republic of Turkey Press (1850-2016)"
- Bachelor's degree in History from Ege University (2010-2014), with thesis on "Age-challenging Women: Bronte Sisters and Fatma Aliye"
- Minor in Art History from Ege University (2011-2014)
Cetin's research explores the historical construction of oppression across multiple axes of identity. Her work in Animal History, Feminist History, Disability History, and Vegan Feminist Theory challenges traditional historical narratives by examining how systems of discrimination intersect. She investigates how historical representations have constructed the "ideal female body" while marginalizing women with disabilities, and analyzes connections between speciesism and ableism throughout history. Her method combines theoretical frameworks with historical analysis to uncover silenced narratives and promote more inclusive historical understanding.
Her scholarly contributions demonstrate a consistent focus on intersectional approaches to history, particularly examining how gender, disability, and species intersect in historical contexts. Through conference papers and book chapters, she has developed a distinctive voice in feminist historical scholarship that bridges multiple disciplines while maintaining strong connections to contemporary social justice movements.
Cetin is actively engaged in social causes as a vegan and member of the Association of Women with Disabilities. She contributes to public discourse through her writing for Gaia Magazine and TBR Culture, as well as maintaining a personal blog where she expands on her academic interests for broader audiences.
