Since 2022, she has contributed to the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre "Re-Figuration of Spaces" through her subproject "Translocal Networks II: Spatial Conflicts and Climate Justice in Social Media," investigating digital mobilization and spatial dynamics in climate activism.

Baran's research synthesizes media effects theory with contemporary political communication, focusing on how social media platforms facilitate translocal climate justice networks while navigating spatial conflicts. Her work examines the re-figuration of physical and digital spaces in environmental movements, particularly analyzing diffusion patterns of climate discourse and spatial resistance strategies within digital public spheres.
As part of the Media Effects Research Unit, she collaborates on projects including "Dynamics of Digital Mobilization" and "Diffusion Dynamics of Conspiracy Theories," contributing sociological perspectives to the university's Weizenbaum-Institut research groups focused on digitalization and transnational public spheres.
