Prof. Dr. Barbara Pfetsch is a Senior Professor at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies, Freie Universität Berlin, with a focus on Political Communication, Media Effects, and Digital Mobilization. She serves as a Principal Investigator at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and leads research groups on Digitalization and Transnational Public Spheres.
- Education: Habilitation in Communication Science (2001), Ph.D. in Political Science (1991), M.A. in Political Science (1985).
Her research spans Hybrid Media Systems, Dissonant Public Spheres, and Spatial Communication, particularly in European contexts. Recent projects include "Coping with Affective Polarization" and "Translocal Networks II: Climate Justice", emphasizing social cohesion and digital democracy.
Key publications analyze European political communication cultures, digital agenda-building, and feminist counterpublics on Twitter. Her work has appeared in Journal of Communication, Political Communication, and International Journal of Press/Politics.
