Zora Soprovich

Zora Soprovich is a faculty member at Vancouver Island University (VIU), teaching English courses at the tiwšɛmawtxʷ Campus (Powell River). She holds a B.A. and M.A. in English Literature from the University of British Columbia (UBC), supported by a full graduate fellowship. With over two decades of teaching experience, she specializes in foundational writing, critical reading, and literature instruction, particularly for adult learners.

Her research interests include Canadian fiction, Victorian literature, children’s literature, and folk/fairy tale studies. She emphasizes student-centered learning through iterative writing feedback and lively class discussions. Soprovich’s career began in 1997 as an auxiliary instructor in VIU’s Adult Basic Education (ABE) department and expanded to teaching at Sliammon. She prioritizes community engagement, having restored a historic home in Powell River while balancing family life and academia.
