Zoe Leviston is a Research Fellow at the School of Medicine and Psychology at the Australian National University (ANU). Her research focuses on applying social psychological theories to understand how individuals and groups respond to climate change and environmental issues. Key areas include the role of social norms, collective action, and intergroup dynamics in shaping climate-related attitudes and behaviors. Prior to ANU, she held roles at CSIRO (2004–2017) and Edith Cowan University (2017–2020), with a PhD in Psychology from Curtin University (2013).
Her work explores themes such as environmental values, prejudice, and multiculturalism, alongside public engagement with science. Notable contributions include studies on climate policy opposition, minimalist lifestyles' environmental impacts, and psychological responses like solastalgia. She actively supervises research students and contributes to interdisciplinary climate change discourse through international collaborations.
Leviston’s research spans over two decades, with publications in journals like Scientific Reports, Journal of Environmental Psychology, and Journal of Applied Social Psychology. Her datasets, including the TISP project across 68 countries, highlight global perspectives on science communication and climate attitudes.
