Ziyadin Cakir

Prof. Ziyadin Cakir is Professor of Geological Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. His research uses space geodesy (InSAR, GPS) to study crustal deformation, earthquake cycles, and tectonic processes in Turkey. He has supervised nine PhD students and leads projects on seismic hazards.

Research focuses on fault mechanics, slow slip events, subsidence monitoring, and earthquake deformation analysis. Recent publications detect millimetric fault movements, analyze subsidence in infrastructure, and investigate far-field effects of major earthquakes.

He directs ITU's National Geographical Information Technologies Innovation and Research Center. Current projects include 'Investigation of crustal deformation related to earthquake cycles' and 'Submarine seismic gap research for Istanbul'. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals.
