معرفی
Dr. Zissis Chroneos is a Professor at the College of Medicine in two departments: Pediatrics, Division of Hematology and Oncology and Cell and Biological Systems. His research focuses on surfactant proteins, particularly SP-A and its receptor SP-R210, and their roles in pulmonary host defense, inflammation, and lung development.
- Education: PhD in Chemistry (University of South Carolina, 1992), BS in Biochemical and Biophysical Sciences (University of Houston, 1988), and postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt University and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
Research Interests: Dr. Chroneos investigates how surfactant proteins modulate innate and adaptive immune responses in the lung, with emphasis on influenza pathogenesis, macrophage polarization, iron sequestration, epithelial cell regeneration, and hyperoxic injury mechanisms. His lab employs advanced techniques in respiratory physiology, histopathology, and receptor-mediated signaling.
Publications: Recent work includes studies on ventilated lung models for viral infection analysis, electronic cigarette impacts on lung health, SP-A’s role in pregnancy outcomes, and mechanobiology of myosin 18A. These span biotechnology, toxicology, molecular physiology, and neonatal medicine.
Teaching & Mentorship: He directs immunology courses for medical students and serves on doctoral and junior faculty mentoring committees.
