Dr. Zi Yang is a Lecturer in the School of Law at Queen's University Belfast (QUB), part of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Their research focuses on financial regulation, FinTech innovations, and socio-legal dynamics, with a current emphasis on online trading, smart contracts, and corporate governance. They teach Commercial Law, Company Law, and Banking & Financial Regulation, holding a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
Research interests include the intersection of law, economics, and societal impacts, particularly in financial technology and regulatory frameworks. They are actively involved in academic networks such as the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network and the Society of Legal Scholars.
Dr. Yang has received awards including the 2025 Crucible Pump-Priming Funding Award and a finalist placement in the QUB School of Law Teaching award. They supervise PhD students like Bashayr Alotaibi, exploring Shari'ah Law’s impact on commercial contracts in Saudi Arabia.
They hold leadership roles, including convening the Company Law Section for the Society of Legal Scholars and co-hosting the BA ECRN online writing group. Their work contributes to UN SDGs related to sustainable finance and responsible consumption.
