Prof. Zhongdong Wang is a Professor of High Voltage Engineering at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Manchester. She holds BEng (Tsinghua, 1991), MSc (Tsinghua, 1993), and PhD (UMIST, 1999) degrees. Her research focuses on transformer insulation systems, alternative environmentally-friendly insulating liquids, and condition monitoring techniques. She leads the Electrical Energy and Power Systems Group and has supervised over 45 PhD students.
- Key roles: PI of the Power Electronic Enabled Transformers (PEET) project (2019–2021)
- Member of IEEE and chaired the 2015 IEEE International Conference on Dielectric Liquids
Research interests include thermal/electrical modeling of transformers, insulation ageing mechanisms, and sustainable materials. Her work contributes to UN SDGs related to climate action and industrial innovation.
Notable impacts include advancing fire-safe transformer liquids and optimizing transformer asset management strategies. Her 182+ publications span dielectric materials, breakdown phenomena, and computational fluid dynamics.
