Zhong Fangrui

Professor Zhong Fangrui is a faculty member at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), where he serves as a doctoral supervisor. He holds a PhD from the National University of Singapore and conducted postdoctoral research at the Technical University of Munich and the University of Ulm as a Humboldt Scholar. His research focuses on artificial enzyme design, bionic catalysis, and green organic synthesis, with contributions to photocatalytic reactions, asymmetric catalysis, and biocatalytic processes. Key achievements include the development of triplet photoenzymes for enantioselective reactions and the integration of chemical photocatalysts with protein structures. He has authored over 50 papers in top journals like Nature, JACS, and Angewandte Chemie, and leads the National Key R&D Program in synthetic biology. His team collaborates with institutions globally, including collaborations with Professors Wu Yuzhou and Xi Chen, and has secured grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and other major programs. He advises numerous PhD and master’s students, and his lab emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches at the interface of organic chemistry, synthetic biology, and materials science.
