Dr. Zhiyu Li is an Associate Professor in Law and Policy at Durham Law School, Durham University. She holds affiliations as a Department Representative and Fellow of the Durham Research Methods Centre. Her academic background includes undergraduate degrees in law and economics from East China University of Political Science and Law, and a doctorate in jurisprudential science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Her research focuses on constitutional law, judicial politics, technology law, algorithmic justice, and Chinese law and society. She employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, including doctrinal analysis, surveys, experiments, and machine learning. Her work explores the intersection of law, technology, and politics, with notable contributions to journals like the Harvard International Law Journal and Artificial Intelligence and Law.
Dr. Li has been cited in major handbooks such as the Oxford Handbook of Comparative Judicial Behaviour and has delivered talks at prestigious forums like the Stanford International Junior Faculty Forum. Her esteem indicators include selection as a Hauser Post-Doctoral Global Fellow at NYU School of Law and fellowships from the Royal Society of Arts and the Higher Education Academy.
Her supervision spans seven students, reflecting her commitment to mentoring in legal scholarship.
