Zhiwei Fang is a Research Fellow in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Rice University. He collaborates with Professor Haotian Wang to design electrochemical reactors for advanced chemical engineering applications such as lithium recovery and carbon capture. Fang holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China (2016) and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin (2020).
His research focuses on cost-effective nanomaterials for electrocatalysis processes, including oxygen evolution, hydrogen evolution, and nitrogen reduction. Key applications span renewable energy storage, water treatment, and sustainable chemical production. Notable projects include electrochemical reactors for lithium extraction from brine and carbon capture systems using solid electrolytes.
His work emphasizes innovative material synthesis techniques, such as 2D confined nanoparticle assembly, and explores mechanisms of single-atom catalysts for ammonia and urea synthesis. Fang’s contributions bridge fundamental catalysis and practical industrial challenges in energy and environmental engineering.
