Zhifan Sheng is a doctoral student in the Department of Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Washington Seattle, concurrently pursuing a graduate certificate in Cinema and Media Studies. He holds an M.Phil. in Gender Studies (Home Department: Chinese Language and Literature) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2020). As a PreDoctoral Instructor in Chinese, he teaches language courses and contributes to academic instruction.
His research focuses on the intersection of media forms and cultural meanings, particularly the media history of Chinese letters and epistolary writings from the late Qing era to contemporary new media arts. His second project examines queer death in Sinophone media cultures, exploring themes of identity, representation, and cultural memory. His work bridges literary studies, digital humanities, and critical theory.
Zhifan’s expertise spans Sinophone Studies, feminist theory, and transnational media analysis. He regularly engages with interdisciplinary frameworks to investigate how technological and cultural shifts shape communication practices and cultural production.
