Dr Zhibin Liao is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, University of Adelaide, and an affiliated Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML). With over 10 years of research experience in AI and 6 years dedicated to medical AI, he develops AI solutions for clinical challenges and has secured over $3 million in grants as chief investigator, alongside 2 US patents.
Education:

- Postdoctoral Research Fellow, University of British Columbia (2017–2019)
His research focuses on medical AI, particularly cardiovascular diagnostics. At AIML (2021–2023), he led the NHMRC partnership project RAPIDx AI with Siemens Healthineers and SA Health, deploying a real-time myocardial injury detection AI trialled in 6 hospitals with 17,000 patients. Previously, he contributed to ultrasound-based cardiovascular diagnostic AI at the University of British Columbia’s RCL Lab.
Dr Liao’s work bridges theoretical AI with clinical implementation, emphasizing healthcare data science and AI in medicine. He is eligible to co-supervise Master’s and PhD students and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams in academia, healthcare, and industry.
