Zhang Taolin

Zhang Taolin is a researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Nanjing Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, concurrently serving as Deputy Governor of Jiangsu Province since October 2001 and member of the Standing Committee of the Jiusan Society Central Committee since December 2002.

His academic background includes:

• Bachelor's in Soil and Agrochemistry from Nanjing Agricultural College (1978-1982)
• Master's from Nanjing Institute of Soil Science, CAS (1982-1985)
• Doctorate in Agronomy from University of Bonn/Giessen-Liebig, Germany (1986-1989)

His research centers on soil degradation mechanisms, ecological restoration of degraded lands, and sustainable agricultural systems, with specialized focus on red soil ecosystems in southern China. He has pioneered frameworks for combating soil erosion, acidification, and fertility loss through integrated watershed management and precision nutrient cycling strategies.

His research integrates field experimentation with spatial modeling to develop region-specific soil conservation protocols.

He directed the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Red Soil Ecological Experimental Station (1995-1999) and established long-term monitoring networks across Jiangxi's critical red soil regions, creating foundational datasets for China's soil health assessment frameworks.
