Zhang Tao

Zhang Tao is a Professor at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a 2024 Hans Fischer Senior Fellow at the TUM Institute for Advanced Study. His work focuses on single-atom catalysis, surface science, and biomass conversion.

• Education: PhD from DICP (1989).
• Leadership: Director of DICP (2007–2017), CAS Vice President (2017–2023).

Research Highlights:
• Pioneered the concept of single-atom catalysis (2011).
• Developed a cellulose-to-ethylene glycol process (2008), scaled to 1000 ton/year (2023).
