Dr Zeyu Lu is a Research Fellow at the Faculty of Science and the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). His work focuses on engineering genetic circuits in yeast to improve production of plant-derived terpenoids for applications in pharmaceuticals, food, and fragrance industries. Dr Lu holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Queensland, a Master of Science from the University of Edinburgh, and a Master of Molecular Biology Research from the University of Queensland as well.
Research Interests:
Dr Lu specializes in synthetic biology and metabolic engineering, leveraging precision fermentation techniques to modulate microbial metabolism. His current projects involve enhancing the production of valuable secondary metabolites using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism, with particular emphasis on terpenoids—organic compounds vital for industrial and biomedical applications. By designing synthetic gene circuitries, he aims to optimize microbial cell factories for sustainable biomanufacturing.
Education:
- PhD, University of Queensland
