Zeynep Ozgen is an Assistant Professor of Social Research and Public Policy at New York University Abu Dhabi. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of California-Los Angeles (2014) and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity. Her research focuses on the intersection of politics and identity, particularly in the Middle East, examining social movements, political mobilization, religion, and ethnicity. She has published in Theory and Society and Perspectives on Europe, and her work explores topics such as schooling and Islamization in Turkey, multiculturalism policies, and minority rights.
Key research interests include:
- Political sociology and identity formation
- Réligious and secular dynamics in Turkey
- Ethno-religious diversity management in Muslim contexts
Her contributions have been recognized through fellowships from the Social Science Research Council, Council for European Studies, IIE/Fulbright-Hays, Wenner-Gren Foundation, and American Council of Learned Societies.
