Zeynep Bulut is a Lecturer in Music at Queen’s University Belfast within the School of Arts, English and Languages. She holds a PhD from UC San Diego (2011) and advanced degrees in Visual Arts and Sociology. Her research integrates experimental music, sound studies, and embodiment, focusing on voice as an interface between body, technology, and environment. Notable projects include the Map A Voice initiative (King’s College London) and collaborations with institutions like Max Planck Research Group and the ICI Berlin.
Her academic work spans books like Building a Voice: Sound, Surface, Skin (2025), articles in Perspectives of New Music and Twentieth-Century Music, and curated events such as Resonant Bodies (2013) and Voice and Environment (2019). She teaches courses on sound art, medical humanities, and experimental music while maintaining an active creative practice with releases like Loneliness (2021) and Eclipse (2019). Current research emphasizes sustainable speech technologies for aphasia recovery through experimental music interfaces.
Zeynep’s academic service includes editorial roles for Twentieth-Century Music and leadership in the Music, Arts, Health, and Environment platform (ESRC-funded). Her interdisciplinary approach bridges musicology, philosophy, and health sciences, with ongoing projects exploring tactile speech, biosensor performance, and sound’s role in environmental sustainability.
