Dr. Zeynep Akcay is a Senior Lecturer at Griffith Film School, Griffith University, Australia, where she leads the Animating major of the Animation Program. With appointments since 2018 (promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2023), she is also a member of the Creative Arts Research Institute since 2021.

Dr. Akcay's research explores experimental aesthetics and innovative uses of animation across various environments, with particular focus on expanding traditional animation frontiers while engaging with themes of gender, ecology, displacements, and audience interaction. Her work bridges academic research with industry practice, drawing from her professional experience as both an animation director and character animator.
Her recent publications reveal a strong interest in serious games for mental health, interactive narrative structures, experimental animation techniques, and cultural representation in animation. She has produced creative works addressing spinal cord injury therapy, mental health applications, and cultural identity through animation.
