Zewen Zhuo

Zewen Zhuo is a Doctoral Researcher at the A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Eastern Finland. His research focuses on advancing computational methods for biomedical image analysis, particularly in the segmentation of neuronal structures using vision foundation models.

• Developed DendriteSAM, a model leveraging Segment Anything for dendrite segmentation in EM images to improve analysis of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
• Published at the 2025 IEEE 6th International Conference on Image Processing, Applications and Systems (IPAS’6) in Lyon, France.

Zhuo’s work addresses challenges in generalizing neural networks across diverse EM datasets, with applications in computer-assisted diagnosis of neuronal anomalies. He collaborates with the Biomedical Image Analysis research group.
