With a strong academic background including a PhD from Middle East Technical University and another doctoral degree from Atatürk University, she has established herself as a dedicated mathematics educator and researcher.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Mathematics Education from Middle East Technical University (2013)
- Master's Degree in Mathematics Education from University of Leeds, UK (2011-2012)
- PhD in Mathematics Education from Atatürk University (2011-2017)
- Bachelor's Degree in Secondary School Science and Mathematics Education from Atatürk University (2002-2007)
Dr. MORKOYUNLU's research focuses primarily on mathematics education with special emphasis on mathematical resilience, error handling in mathematics learning, parental involvement in math education, and gifted student education. Her work explores how students develop mathematical thinking and how educators can create supportive learning environments that encourage mathematical reasoning despite challenges and mistakes. She has particularly investigated how parental support affects middle school students' mathematical achievement and how error-based activities can improve preservice teachers' reflective thinking skills.
Her publication record shows consistent output with significant activity in recent years, particularly in 2023-2025, with research spanning mathematical resilience, error handling activities, gifted education, and teacher training. Her work appears in both international and national journals, with a focus on practical applications for mathematics educators.
Scientific recognition includes:
- YLSY 2007 award from the Ministry of National Education
Dr. MORKOYUNLU has supervised four master's students to completion, with two additional students currently working under her supervision. She teaches a variety of courses including Middle School Mathematics Curriculum, Activity Development in Mathematics Teaching, Qualitative Research Methods in Mathematics Education, and Geometry and Measurement Teaching. Her research projects include 'Teacher Candidates' Level of Gaining Student Recognition Competence' and 'Design of Dynamic Software-Supported Activities for Gifted Students Using Design-Based Research Method.'
