Prof. Zehra Semra Can is a faculty member at Marmara University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering. She has dedicated her career to advancing oxidation techniques, wastewater treatment, and hazardous waste management.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (1991), Marmara University
- Master of Science in Environmental Sciences (1994), Boğaziçi University
- Master of Science (1997) and PhD (1999) in Environmental Sciences, Drexel University
Research Interests: Specializes in oxidation/disinfection by-products, micropollutants, endocrine disruptors, and advanced adsorption techniques for water purification.
Scientific Contributions: Her recent work focuses on cellulose-based polyurethanes, olive waste biosorbents, and magnetic nanoparticles for wastewater remediation. Publications span environmental toxicology (cytotoxicity analysis) and data-driven water quality assessment (machine learning clustering).
Academic Roles: Research Assistant (1991), Visiting Professor at San Diego State University (2004-2005), promoted to Professor (2014).
