Zeeshan Ahmed

Dr. Zeeshan Ahmed is an Assistant Professor of Medicine on the Tenure Track and Core Member at the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH), Department of Medicine – Division of General Internal Medicine, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS). He holds affiliations with the Rutgers Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Center for Cancer Health Equity (Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey), and Rutgers Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey. His research focuses on data science and genomic analysis to advance precision medicine through AI/ML-driven tools and frameworks.

Education: Ph.D./Doctor of Science in Bioinformatics (Magna Cum Laude) from University of Würzburg and Technical University of Munich, Germany. Postdoctoral training in Bioinformatics/AI at The Jackson Laboratory, UConn Health, and UMass Medical School. Master's degrees in Computer Science from University of Central Punjab (Pakistan) and Blekinge Institute of Technology (Sweden), with pre-doctoral ML research at Fraunhofer Institute, Germany, and doctoral AI/ML work at Vienna University of Technology, Austria.

Research emphasizes integrating genomic/metabolomic data into clinical care via high-performance computing (HPC) frameworks, HIPAA-compliant data infrastructures, and mobile health platforms. His lab (PromIS Lab at Rutgers IFH/RWJMS) develops intelligent health systems for precision medicine, with tools like bioinformatics pipelines, variant annotation databases, and clinical prediction models.

Notable contributions include HIPAA-compliant data management systems for patient recruitment and electronic health record integration (e.g., EPIC), as well as open-source bioinformatics tools and genomics pipelines.
