معرفی
Professor Zane Andrews is a Research Professor in Physiology at Monash University, affiliated with the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (MBDI). He serves as Deputy Head of the Metabolism, Diabetes and Obesity Program at MBDI, Editor-in-Chief for Endocrinology, President of Hypothalamic Neuroscience and Neuroendocrinology Australasia (HNNA), and Council Member of the International Neuroendocrine Federation.
Andrews earned his PhD from the University of Otago (2003) and completed postdoctoral training at Yale University (2004-2008). His lab investigates neuroendocrine control of energy homeostasis, focusing on how hunger-sensing systems (e.g., AgRP neurons and ghrelin) regulate food intake, reward, motivation, and cognitive functions. Techniques include optogenetics, chemogenetics, and in vivo calcium imaging.
Key research areas include ghrelin’s role in obesity, stress-induced eating behaviors, and neurodegenerative links (e.g., Parkinson’s disease). He leads projects on psychedelic treatments for anorexia, stress-hunger interactions, and brain-sympathetic nervous system interactions in cancer cachexia. Awards include the International Servier Award (2010) and Endocrine Society of Australia Mid-Career Award (2013).
Andrews has supervised numerous research projects and is actively mentoring PhD students. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing health and well-being (SDG 3) and sustainable cities (SDG 11).
