معرفی
Zahir Ahmad is an Associate Professor and Curriculum Lead in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Coventry University's CEES School of Engineering. He has over 15 years of experience in electronic and communication engineering, specializing in optical wireless communication, visible light communication (VLC), and underwater communication systems. He completed a PhD in Optical Wireless Communication from the University of Warwick (2014), an MSc in Engineering from KAIST (2008), and a BSc in Computer Engineering from AIUB, Bangladesh (2004). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education (HE) sector and serves as a link tutor for a Malaysian partner institution.
His research focuses on VLC applications in dynamic environments (e.g., vehicular networks and underwater systems), ITU-T standardization, and digital signal processing. He has contributed to patents in optical communication and co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications. Current research includes securing non-terrestrial free-space optical links and evaluating modulation techniques for Li-Fi systems. He supervises four PhD students and teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in communication and electronics.
Zahir’s work spans vehicular VLC positioning using machine learning, underwater optical wireless sensor networks, and spatial diversity techniques for improving channel performance. His contributions to standardization include drafts for ITU-T G.8032, reflecting expertise in network reliability and protocol design.
