Zack Varner, DMA, serves as Adjunct Professor of Woodwinds in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts at St. Mary's University. His eclectic career spans jazz performance (Copenhagen/Aarhus Jazz Festivals), film scoring (Hulu/Amazon), and studio collaborations with ensembles like the Austin Symphony. Education includes a D.M.A from UT Austin and M.M. from University of Illinois.
Research interests blend jazz innovation, Latin rhythms, and multimedia composition. His 2018 album 'Blues in the Nude' synthesizes hard bop with global textures.
Honors include the Stribling Jazz Award and finalist in the 2022 FMC Film Scoring Competition. Performance credits feature the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and Graham Reynolds.
