Zachary Herrmann

Zachary Herrmann is an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Executive Director of the Center for Professional Learning at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE). He also serves as Faculty Fellow with the Penn Environmental Innovations Initiative and chairs the Penn GSE Committee on Professional Learning. His roles include co-directing the Project-Based Learning Certificate Program and leading the Strategic Leadership in Education program.

Dr. Herrmann's expertise focuses on professional learning design, teacher/leader development, team effectiveness, and climate justice education. He taught high school mathematics and developed collaborative networks for educators. His work emphasizes project-based learning (PBL), negotiation strategies, and equity-centered pedagogy.

He has published books on PBL core practices and authored influential articles on education innovation, such as 'Preparing Teachers for Project-Based Teaching' (2019) and 'Getting Beyond the Teacherpreneur' (2017). His research addresses climate justice through global PBL initiatives and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Herrmann has secured grants including Penn Global awards (2023, 2021) for projects targeting underserved communities. He teaches courses like 'Collaboration & Conflict' and 'Teaching and Learning in Student-Centered Classrooms,' and contributes to Wharton's MBA program via the 'Negotiation' elective.

His leadership extends to roles on the Penn GSE Senior Leadership Team and initiatives like the Projects for Progress award-winning program. He co-leads global climate justice education collaborations with educators across Asia, Africa, and Europe.
