Zachary D. Sharp is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Stable Isotopes at the University of New Mexico's Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. His research focuses on stable isotope geochemistry applied to paleoclimate reconstruction, planetary science, and meteoritics.
Current research includes triple oxygen isotope analysis of waters and sediments, chlorine-oxygen-hydrogen isotope analyses of extraterrestrial materials, and volcanic gas studies. He developed the tunable infrared laser direct absorption spectroscopy (TILDAS) system for high-precision triple oxygen isotope measurements.
Research areas:
- Triple oxygen isotopes in paleoclimate studies
- Chlorine isotope systematics of lunar samples
- Early Earth atmospheric evolution
- Metabolic studies using isotope tracers
