Zachary D. Atlas is a Research Assistant Professor in the School of Geosciences at the University of South Florida (USF), within the College of Arts and Sciences. He manages the Center for Geochemical Analysis and specializes in volcanic geochemistry, petrology, and analytical geochemical techniques. His academic qualifications include a Ph.D. from the University of Miami (2008), M.S. degrees from Florida International University (2001 and 1995), and a B.A. from SUNY Stony Brook (1992).
His research focuses on subduction zone magmatism, early Earth geochemistry, and the origins of life. Recent projects include acquiring advanced analytical equipment such as ICP-MS and Ion Chromatograph Spectrometers through USF grants. He has published extensively on topics like Boninite lavas and prebiotic solvents.
