Dr. Yvonne Y. Kwan is an Associate Professor of Asian American Studies at San Jose State University, affiliated with the Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. She chairs the CSU-wide Asian American Studies Caucus and represents the CSU Council of Ethnic Studies. As the lead architect of SJSU's Asian American Studies BA program, she advocates for educational equity. Her research focuses on transgenerational trauma, critical refugee studies, and community activism. She directs the AAPI Perspectives Oral History Project, collaborating with local institutions to document AAPI activism and develop K-12 curricula.

Her work bridges academia and community through projects like the Southeast Asian American Studies Conference (2021) and implementation of CA Assembly Bill 1460 (Ethnic Studies graduation requirement). Funded by the ASA Minority Fellowship Program, her research explores trauma's intergenerational impacts and pathways to social justice. She mentors through programs like Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship and Dartmouth’s First-Gen Mentorship.
