Yvonne Perrie

Yvonne Perrie is a Professor and Chair in Drug Delivery at the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Strathclyde. Previously, she held a Professorship at Aston University (2007–2016). She earned a BSc (First-Class Hons) in Pharmacy from the University of Strathclyde and a PhD in Liposomal Delivery of DNA Vaccines from the University of London (1995–1998). Her research focuses on lipid nanoparticles, drug delivery systems, and vaccines, addressing healthcare challenges through multidisciplinary approaches. She has authored over 150 peer-reviewed papers, four textbooks, and holds five patents.

Research interests include vaccine adjuvants, mRNA delivery via lipid nanoparticles, and nanomedicine applications. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation. Notable achievements include an MBE (2024) for services to pharmaceutical innovation and fellowships from the Royal Society of Chemistry and Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Her projects emphasize scalable manufacturing of drug delivery systems, such as microfluidic production of lipid nanoparticles and freeze-drying optimization. Collaborations span global institutions, with recent studies on mRNA vaccine efficacy, PEG-lipid roles in LNPs, and ionizable lipid impacts. Supervision of 19 research students underscores her mentorship in advancing pharmaceutical sciences.

She leads a lab equipped with advanced tools like the EVOS AMF5000R Imaging System and Digital Incubator. Awards recognize her contributions to drug delivery innovation, including the 50th Anniversary Chair in Drug Delivery (2016). Her work bridges academia and industry, driving translational research in biomedical technologies.
