Yvette Shen

Yvette Shen is an Associate Professor at The Ohio State University's Department of Design within the College of Arts and Sciences, where she also serves as Visual Communication Design Coordinator. With educational backgrounds including an MFA in Visual Communication Design from Purdue University and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Rhode Island, she brings interdisciplinary expertise to her research and teaching.

Her research focuses on:

• Information design and data visualization for complex information comprehension
• User interface and experience design with health and wellness applications
• Cross-cultural collaboration and strategic design thinking
• Design education methodologies and mental health support

She leads significant projects including the AIGA Design Educators Survey and Visualizing Self-Tracked Data to Navigate Well-being.

Professor Shen has received numerous honors including:

• Design Incubation Communication Design Educators Teaching Award (2023)
• Johnson & Johnson Innovation QuickFire Challenge Award (2022)
• Ohio State Research Seed Grant (2020)
• Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Theme Grant (2019)

She maintains active collaborations with Nationwide Children's Hospital, Ohio State College of Medicine, and the Department of Biochemistry, while serving on committees including AIGA Design Educator Steering Committee and College of Arts and Sciences Student Wellness Committee.
