Dr. Yvette Drissen is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Philosophy, Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences, Tilburg University. She is also a postdoctoral researcher at the Academic Collaborative Center for an Inclusive Labor Market. Her work bridges political philosophy, moral psychology, and applied ethics, focusing on societal challenges related to competition, meritocracy, inequality, and neuroinclusion.
- Education: Master’s in Philosophy (Tilburg University, 2015-2017), Bachelor’s in Social Work (Avans University of Applied Sciences, 2011-2015)
Research Interests center on the ethics of competition, meritocracy, and socio-economic justice, with a focus on their psychological, relational, and structural impacts in workplaces, education, and labor markets. She also explores neuroinclusive educational practices, particularly in assessment design, to combat ableism and promote equity.
Recent Publications analyze competition’s harms (psychological costs, estrangement), meritocracy’s role in perpetuating poverty stigma, and innovations in neuroinclusive presentation skill assessment. Her 2024 PhD thesis, When Success Becomes the New Normal, critiques competitive societal structures through an ethical lens.
Scientific Awards include the 2025 Landelijke Dissertatieprijs for her PhD thesis. She actively contributes to transdisciplinary collaborations, including the ACC for an Inclusive Labor Market, and serves as Chair of her department’s Diversity, Inclusion & Equity Committee.
