Yves Poumay is a Full Professor at the University of Namur, where he conducts extensive research in skin biology, epidermal modeling, and dermatophytosis. His work integrates in vitro and in vivo approaches to study host-pathogen interactions, skin barrier function, and cellular senescence in skin diseases.
His research interests include:
- Skin biology and epidermal homeostasis
- Reconstructed human epidermis (RHE) models
- Fungal infections (dermatophytosis, Malassezia)
- Keratinocyte culture and 3D systems
- Cellular senescence and skin aging
- Host immune responses to dermatophytes
His recent publications focus on fungal adhesion mechanisms, expression of infection markers, and the role of stress pathways in skin aging and cancer. These works span disciplines such as dermatology, microbiology, molecular biology, and cell signaling, with a strong emphasis on translational models for human skin disease.
He has received significant recognition, including:
- Docteur Honoris Causa (2012)
- Namurois de l'Année 2009 in Sciences
- Associate Member of the Académie Royale de Médecine de Belgique (since 2021)
Poumay actively supervises PhD students and early-career researchers, serving as co-supervisor in multiple doctoral projects. He is also involved in major research grants and collaborative projects, such as MycInflamm and TineaDiag, focusing on fungal diagnostics and modeling. He co-manages the Histology Platform at the University of Namur’s Morphology - Imaging facility, supporting advanced tissue analysis.
