Yuval Filmus is an Associate Professor in the Henry and Marilyn Taub Faculty of Computer Science at the Technion, Israel, with a secondary appointment in the Math Department since 2022. He joined the Technion in 2015 after completing postdoctoral research at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. His academic background includes undergraduate studies at the Open University of Israel, an MSc from the Weizmann Institute of Science (supervised by Uri Feige), and a PhD from the University of Toronto (supervised by Toni Pitassi).
Research Interests:
His work spans theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics, with primary focus areas including Boolean function analysis, computational complexity theory, combinatorial structures, and submodular optimization techniques.
Awards and Grants:
- Recipient of the Alon Fellowship and Krill Prize for outstanding scientific contributions
- Currently holds active research grants from the Israeli Science Foundation (ISF) and European Research Council (ERC)
Student Advising:
He has supervised multiple graduate students including PhD candidate Idan Mehalel and MSc students Johnathan Spiegelman, Gilad Chase, Neta Dafni, and Yuval Dagan, with thesis topics spanning online learning, Boolean functions, and combinatorial game theory.
Collaborations:
Has conducted research visits at Charles University (Prague), Simons Institute (Berkeley), KTH Royal Institute of Technology, McGill University, and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
